It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

Saturday Ronny Cedeno tried bunting with 1st & 3rd and no outs and the pitcher up next. Stuupid move which should have been corrected by manager. Today the identical thing took place. Not condoning Cedeno who must have little smarts, but if the Russell lets the same mistake happen 2 days in a row he needs to be gone by midnight. So wonder Kerrigan and Varsho went behind the back of this clueless, lifeless leader.

just because of the way pitching is today, Resop might be more important pitching as a relief pitcher.starters only going 6 innings, then turning it over to a Resop, Meek and Hanrahan could be a good last 3rd if the game.i wouldn't mind them going after a free agent pitcher like a Chris Young who they could get cheap, the pitcher the rockies don't sign,De La Rosa or Francis or even a Jeremy Bonderman.

You should be concerned that we don't score runs, that we play sloppy baseball. Are you sick of Ohlendorf and Karstens to? They have terrible records to. Just making a point with this offense, you could have 5 cy young pitchers on the starting rotation and they would struggle having success.

Bucs4Life: Duke peformed adequately for the first half of 2009. Since his rookie year he is 35-65 a winning percentage of .350. If you want to get excited by a 4.06 era in 2009 that's great, but for me I'm sick of seeing him pitch and the Pirates lose.

For the most part ,the brewers have feasted on most of our pitchers. In 2009 desite having a losing record Duke had a ERA. of 4.06 which isn't bad and if i remember correctly didn't get much run support that year despite pitching some good games.Win-loss records don't always tell the true story.

For the most part Zack Duke has the same year. He led the league is loses last year, is second this year, and three years ago had the worst whip of any starter in the league. The announcers cried last night how the bullpen gave away his win. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings which included 9 hits and a walk! Milwaukee continually pounds on him which has contributed to our terrible record against them.

Since Maholm and Duke never have two years in a row the same results, mayve they both will have good years in 2011.

We usually lead the league in the number of times being shutout,we don't play sound fundamental baseball,we seem to fall apart every year after the mid year trades,we lack an everyday strong veteran leader to keep the ship on track.

Arizona, WE DON'T SCORE RUNS!!! Ohlendorf and Karstens didn't get run support all year.We are near the bottom every year in homeruns. Our leading rbi man last year had 69 rbi's.This year Jones will have more than that, but he has left alot of men on base. Our strongest asset was our bullpen until the trades.Milledge has had alot of at bats this year where his homers and rbi's should be better than it is.Cedeno is a young guy to and has the potential to hit with power. But potential and actually doing it are to different things.

BUC4LIFE: If you had to rate the immediate needs for the Pirates RF would be around 8th behind 3 starters, 3 relief pitchers a SS and 1st baseman. Milledge is very young. That player packaged with what the Pirates are growing on the farm gives me hope that the Pirates can handle RF internally. Regardless, if they cannot get rid of Doumit in the offseason, I can assure you the Pirates will sit before signing a prized RF. You must pick yuour battles. What are your top 9 positional player needs?

Sorry Arizona but rightfield remains unstable for us. That's a position where you should have a player who can put up power numbers. At the present time i don't see a fulltime player on our roster who can deliver the numbers needed for that position. As far as road games being a party for us,with our road record it should be an embarresment not a party.

The team does not need help in the OF. The depth is fine there throughout the organization. Pitching still remains the priority.

Arizonabruce, is this site finally opening their eyes to the brilliance of Polatta. A person actually asking for the signing of Adam Dunn! The problem now is when I made the call to sign him, NOBODY in MLB wanted him. That's not the case now. The Pirates need to be in front of the curve for once. Getting guys off the wire is no way to build a team. Now go get Hunter Pence, especially since PR says he's maxed out! That's just silly!

Bucs4life, it has nothing to do with mental issues. There road play is a direct result of treating away games like a party. PR doesn't like when someone reports things which is why this site is Pro-Pirate management. But I reported what goes on before trips 2 months ago..... Before it was deleted!

Since Jones requires low salary, that should increase his value. The key reason why he has the most HRs & RBIs is that he has had the most opportunity. He has generated both low batting and slugging percentages with below average defense at a position that requires strong offensive numbers. This is not the player I want in the middle of the line-up card each game next season. There is depth in the outfield throughout the minors. In imaginary land other than the priority of pitching the Pirates make a huge splash in free agency this off season with Dunn at 1st base. This will run a length of time for 2 years & 2 months prior to Rendon making his debut. I still see Alvarez shifting to 1st base at this time. What type of numbers will Dunn require? Can he sign for under 7 million per season or not?

We will remain in the cellar until we figure out how to win on the road. This problem has been going on for quite a long time and must be weighing heavily mental wise on the players. We can't win even when we do score alot of runs.Don't know if this problem will be going away in the near future.Alot of it has become a mental issue and those problem are hard to correct.
