Free Agents

It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

In the defense of Polatta, Dunn could be a realistic free agent pick-up for a short period of time to consider this upcoming off season unless G. Jones starts to pick it up. I am not sure I would pull that trigger, but it does make sense considering the slide G. Jones has displayed with his offensive production.

Do you have anything creative to offer? C'mon, you're better than that.

Wouldn't make that deal. Before the draft, I was told that Strasburg was a surgery waiting to happen because of his mechanhics. An arm problem at this early age sets off sirens.

My sources tell me that Rendon will is expected to develop physically to the point that he'll be a better fit at first base. In other words, Alvarez will stay at the hot corner, where he has done well thus far.

congratulations to the pirates for becoming the 1st NL team to loose a series to the Mets at home this year.

What is the projected time schedule before Anthony Rendon debuts in Pittsburgh and pushes Alvarez to 1st base?

I would trade any 2 pitchers in the Pirate minor league organization and add an additional MLB pitcher from the Pirate organization for Strasburg injury or not. This is assuming he could sign for a reasonable lifetime deal to pitch for the Pirates. Sports have injuries. This is part of the game.

What is all this chatter about building thru the draft? We just spent $6.5M on a guy that has never even gotten a college player out. Not to mention plays every 5th day! Dan Uggla can belt 30 homers playing a non power position every day and in the majors! And revenue sharing could get you 10 of them! Well, it could have gotten you 10 of them if they wouldn't have pocketed the money!

You can pick up affordable players that can be a valuable addition to the team. What would have our record been without those 3 veteran relievers we traded? Just my opinion, but no matter what sport veteran experience on a team is important. And we are a young team looking for that.

Sure, you take the first pick. But the chances that you'll get a franchise player there aren't great. Strasburg couldn't through one season without an arm problem.

We are paying a guy {Iwamura}5 million to play AAA ball. You can pick up affordable players at a reasonable price. What would our record be if not for those 3 veteran relivers we traded?

All im saying is were not a team thats going to spend hundreds of millions on players, free agents. Were not a big market team. If we had a competitive team and only needed to add acouple pieces, were not going to run out and significantly overpay for players. We have to draft our talent and sign international players. And what prospects did we have before that would aquire that type of talent? Yoslan Herrera? All we had in the minors were washed up minor league free agents who had no chance of helping us, and the minor league records showed it all. This year Altoona is in a playoff race. Bradenton and West Virginia are both doing well. Indianapolis lost most of its players, due to call ups and some injuries. State College is alot of high schoolers playing against advanced college players and their doing well. We had no promising players before, but now some of us can look forward to guys like Bryan Morris, Jeff Locke, Taillon, Allie, Heredia and D'Arnaud coming up and playing for us.

I would take Harper & Strasburg making the Hall of Fame over Alvarez, McCutchen, and Taillon.

If you can secure the #1 overall selection in the draft, you take it.

Only one No. 2 draft pick has made it to the Hall of Fame -- Reggie Jackson.

Good article on the sub .500 misery.Chicago is a major market team and they like other teams have tried to buy a pennant.Goes to show you it's like a big puzzle and all the pieces need to fit.

Each draft is different. Regardless, I think both Harper & Strasburg will be special for the Nationals. Time will be the true answer.

Unfortunately, there's no Sidney Crosby available. The first pick in the MLB draft isn't worth nearly as much as in the other three sports.

The team is positioning itself for the #1 draft selection. It is quite obvious that no manager in baseball is this dumb on a consistent basis. Regardless, the manager needs to be terminated for a fresh start once the season ends.

"Well, we’re in the fourth inning. We’ve got a lot of game to cover. ... You feel like we’ve got five more chances, with the top of the order due up the next inning, to do something. Gallagher was able to give us much-needed innings. You’d like to get the runs, but you have to realize there’s still a lot of game left. You start taxing your bullpen and your bench early in a 7-2 game or whatever it was, and it’s not going to be a very good situation for us."

The Marlins did it one year for Jim Leyland, build a top talent team for one year so he could experience a world series championship.

As i stated several weeks ago, a salary cap is the only solution to give more teams a fair shake, even if it costs a work stopage. As far as Karstens he would be near the top of my list if building a team as my long reliever.
