It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

what reason did you not like him?

Yeah Lancem and I was one who wondered why the Pirates were even fooling with this guy.I sincerly hope I am wrong about all the things i just posted. i would rather be wrong and look like an idiot and have the Pirates be good then be right and the Pirates continue to stink.

remember according to huntington, walker is only a coner utility player at best.

following up on my last post this is why I think that Huntington has to go.I think he has a real problem identfying ML talent. They need an expierienced GM who can upgrade the ML team and will also keep the Minors a priority. He has hit on a few trades but overall players like Morton,Hart,Eveland, LaRoche,Snyder etc,etc has really hurt this team. Between Aki and Snyder he has wasted millions that could have been saved and spent on a decent pitcher.

I think they have too many players with similar talent. It is alright to have competition but when you have 5 or 6 players without a lot of difference between them, all you do is frustrate everybody concerned and make mgnt look indicisive. Make a decision and move on.For example they had all these players in their fold and then went out and got Bowker who wasn't an upgrade but more of the same and now you have to slice up that pie of playing time a little thinner. If your going to bring in more stock clear out the old inventory at the same time.

You're right. That's why platoons work best here. There's no productive player from each side.

4 homers doesn't help Milledge.Lets face it there are a lot of warts to go around.

piratesreport, his career numbers tell a different story.doumit is the only answer in right if the pirates stay pat and do nothing.they need to pick-up a quality 1st baseamn or rightfielder.the rumor during the trading deadline about K.C wanting to trade Greinke and the pirates having enough young prospects to make that deal,if its true they have to make that trade during the off-season.

The one thing we know and that is the Pirates cannot have another disastrous year like this one.Alvarez is the big key as far as position players go. He has to step up and be productive. If Cutch,Tabata, Walker and Alvarez lead this team next year the run production part will be much better. The big QUESTION is where do they find Pitching?WE know that Maholm,Duke,Olendorf,Morton,Karstens,McCutchen and anybody else at AAA cannot be counted on.Maybe some guys like Owens at AA can make it up in June or July but that is too late and they may take a long time to be productive at the ML level. I don't know how they find 2 good pitchers but that is the first priority.

Doumit's .182 batting average against lefties doesn't help his case.

I have seen both Doumit and Milledge give up runs in RF.I would take Doumit over Milledge. I would also take Doumit over Snyder behind the plate. Snyder hasn't been as good as advertised and his bat *****, Jaramilla(sp?) is a better hitter then him and cost about 5mil. less. money that could go toward a pitcher.

if its about winning, its about who gives the team a better chance to win,and that is doumit.ragjag have you watched any of the games, what has doumit done in right that makes him a liability?he no ichiro, but he has been much better than milledge.

Lancem: You cannot isolate a decision solely on talent. Did you buy your home solely based on which home was the best in the community? Decisions are made based on a combination of money and talent with a blend of intangibles.

This is the first time I agree with Lancem. There is no doubt that Dewey is a liability in right but his bat plays better then any other candidate for that position.Unless the Pirates can trade or sign a significant upgrade at either 1st or right their best bet is to concentrate on finding a couple of solid starters and flush out the bullpen again.

the only reason the pirates would choose milledge over doumit is because of money, not talent.

Lancem: The Pirates are playing dress rehearsal with Doumit in RF. There is no question the economics of the game is making an impact on the direction of their development at the MLB level. Milledge is suffering due to these circumstances. Milledge is a very good value player. I think he has a much higher probability still being in the MLB in 5 years as oppose to Doumit. Time will only tell. Yes, I agree the Pirates are not as high on Milledge in comparison to about eight other core MLB roster players. Some of that might be due to some minor league prospets currently in the organization. Regardless, I would not place Doumit in this select group of core players. Yet I do think Milledge is higher on this flag pole and closer to the core group than Doumit.

arizona does that tell you how much the pirates think of milledge,if they were high on him do you think the would be putting doumit in the outfield, taking away at bats from him.

obviously piratesreport he hasn't been traded yet.earlier posts from you and others were predicting the future trades, unless he is packaged with some prospects for a quality rightfielder or firstbaseman,it will be a salary dump if traded alone for prospects.

lancem:

Isn't it premature to call it a salary dump? Doesn't it depend on who they get in return? He hasn't been traded yet.

The NFL allows an organization to cut a player in the middle of the contract. This should be implemented in MLB. This will allow more money for performing players and less who do not produce. It would help all of MLB.

I would be OK if this was implemented as a compromise instead of salary caps. Yet, salary caps would do more good for baseball.
