CREATE A NEW TOPIC2011 season
A line-up of McCutchen, Tabata, Walker, Alvarez, Jones/Diaz, Overbay/Pearce, Doumit/Snyder and Cedeno has potential for much improvement. The question is, will a rotation of Correia, Maholm, Ohlendorf, McDonald and Lincoln/Morton/Olsen be good enough to compete on a regular basis? PL

Lee should realize if the Pirates are not in the race by midseason, he will get traded.

Sammy: I agree 1B is weak. The Pirates need a big bat (considering the inconsistency off the bat of Pedro at 3B). Lee is the answer. He should force the Pirates to sign a premier starting pitcher of his choice and then agree to sign with the Pirates at a competitive salary. This would allow the Pirates to be competitive for 2012.

Arizona, I still feel 1B is a major weak spot. I personally like Garrett Jones, but he slumps for to long of periods to build a consistent winning team. I am most certainly not a McGhee fan. Milwaukee benched him last fall after he was about 1 for 50. It's a shame because with a good bat at 1st the Pirates could stay in a weakened down NL Central race.

Sammy: Nobody on this site has been more critical of Overpaid than me right from the start of his signing. I would have over-ruled that signing and saved the franchise millions in addition to allowing the team more wins last season. Regardless, your initial comment was based on who is currently on the team. It was not based on who was on the team last season. I do not see either of those players you state securing over 100 abs next season.

Arizona while I can predict Zambrano's hitting stats for next year I am willing to bet that there btter than what Pearce or Overbay hit last year. Of course they won't have the defensive ability of Overbay. Wait that didn't work out so good either.

sammy: What do you think Zam will hit next season (batting, on-base, and slugging)?

Zambrano is still a better hitter than any first baseman we have.

The agents have dominated the owners from a business perspective when that type of thing occurs.

Wow, the Cubs had to pay $15 million to get a 5-13 pitcher for Zambrano. Someone remind me again what an asset that wacko is/was and why anyone would could consider the Cubs any kind of a threat - in my great-grandkids lifetime.

Any validity to the rumor the Pirates are "toying" with the thought of Cutch playing SS?

How about the Bucs getting younger: Rendon & Harper for Cutch, Tabata and any current starter Manny for Alvarez and Meek and the Orioles 2nd choice of a current starter 1B: Curry 2B: Walker SS: Manny 3B: Rendon C: Sanchez RF: Nate CF: Marte LF: Pressley Cole & Taillon That is a MLB squad that could compete within 3 years!
